Project Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n

SAMESEA aims to develop standardized maritime monitoring practices across the Adriatic-Ionian region (EUSAIR basin), with a main emphasis on the monitoring of marine sentinel species (dolphins, sea turtles, monk seals). In pursuing this main objective, SAMESEA will also improve the dialogue between socio-economic activities and the authorities responsible for marine biodiversity conservation, which is key for designing effective conservation measures. A cooperation at the macro-regional level and among different stakeholders will ensure a more functional management of the marine environment, and a long-lasting sustainable coexistence between human activities and marine wildlife. The project will create a strategy for the monitoring of marine sentinel species (such as\u00a0T. Truncatus<\/em>,\u00a0C. Caretta<\/em>,\u00a0M. Monachus<\/em>), pilot actions, methods to spread its conservation practices, and an action plan to improve the sustainable management of the EUSAIR basin.<\/p>\n

– 1.3 Transnational monitoring strategy<\/p>\n

– 2.1 Transnational coexistence handbook<\/p>\n

– 2.2 Transnational strategy for long-term human and sentinel species coexistence<\/p>\n

– 3.1 SAMESEA Network<\/p>\n

– 3.2 Training and raising awareness scheme<\/p>\n

-3.3 Action Plan for the transnational sustainable marine ecosystem management in the EUSAIR \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Region.<\/p>\n

For the first time in this region, a regional task force will establish a common approach to assess interactions between marine sentinel species and human activities at multiple levels, and it will propose monitoring and management plans accordingly.<\/p>\n
