The main focus of the project is the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity and agrobiodiversity in selected mountain areas of Albania (mainly the Alps region).

Main components of the project:

  • Protection of biodiversity and agrobiodiversity;
  • Increasing income in rural families through balanced, sustainable and gender-balanced use of natural resources;
  • Application of new policy instruments, procedures and processes for the protection of biodiversity.

This project has a new phase of implementation, which has an increase in the value of the financial contribution, in the amount of 500,000 Euros and is expected to be completed within 2018.

At this stage, the objective of the project focuses on the preservation and sustainable use of the genetic heritage of biodiversity and agrobiodiversity in protected areas, with a focus on the Albanian Alps, and also aims to consolidate the results achieved by piloting for a territory. This project deals with and contributes to some of the priorities and objectives of the biodiversity strategy and the relevant chapter in SKZHI until 2020, as well as some priorities of the cross-sectoral strategy of agriculture, especially organic farms and agro-environment, their diversification, strengthening of groups of farmers, transfer of knowledge on the cultivation of local breeds and varieties, expansion of the use of quality schemes, strengthening of capacities, for EU LEADER programs, as programs that will help in local development by revitalizing rural areas and enabling new employment.
