MONITORING CUMULATIVE IMPACT TO GUIDE MITIGATION AND  RESTORATION IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION

Timeline: 4.2025-12.2028

Total Budget Albania: 195,620 Euro

Overall objective: Cumulative impact of multiple stressors in degraded and polluted seagrass meadows, wetlands and habitats of endangered species are monitored and, using ecosystem-based approaches, nature-based solutions are collaboratively identified in 9 pilot areas  to guide sustainable mitigation and restoration actions for the wider Euro-Mediterranean region.

MIRAMAR project has identified three ecologically significant ecosystems in the Euro-Mediterranean region: seagrass meadows, wetlands, and habitats of endangered species. MIRAMAR’s 8 partners represent 6 countries across the Euro-Med region (Albania, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, and Spain), and come from academia (UNISI), research institutes (CSIC, HCMR, SZN, RBI), NGO networks (MIO-ECSDE), as well as regional (OEC) and national authorities (ME).

Pilot area for Albania is: National Park Vjosa River

Working packages:

WP 1: Consolidating results from previous projects on monitoring stressors in natural degraded habitats

WP2: Testing phase: monitoring cumulative impact of multiple stressors on degraded natural habitats

Wp3: Jointly identifying solutions to multiple stressors for catalysing change
